Are the Gili Islands worth visiting? Yes, most definitely. The chances are if it is Bali you are destined to for an amazing dream like holiday vacation, you'll end up going to at least one of the three Islands. It's unavoidable actually, because you'll be Island hopping and Lombok is the nearest to Bali Island. Lombok Island is your obvious choice for variety, and from there it's inexcusable not to visit any of the small (but perfectly formed) Islands.
During peak season (which happens to be between April and October) Bali is crowded, noisy and honestly, manic at times. You will want a break from the drama ― somewhere to go off and chill out, relax and actually enjoy yourself without too many people jostling around you. The traffic too on Bali is frustrating, well there is no mechanized vehicles at all on any of the Gili Islands which is a Godsend. When it boils down to you enjoying your mindfulness, that's a rare and valuable thing ― no traffic.
